Question:
I see that MasterGo games are stored in 'non-standard' form, would I be able to export as .sgf, add variations and comments for a class or for my personal exploration? Or are the games 'fixed' and only viewable via the program? I do a regular class and like to take games that have interested me with lots of variations to show kyu players. Having to re-enter the games is time consuming & boring.
Answer:
If you import games into a MasterGo database, you can also export them in sgf format. However, games which are part of an official MasterGo game collection are not exportable.
This measure is necessary to protect our investment in the game collection. We buy games collections in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. We enter the game's moves. We translate the game information from its original language into a normalized English version (Ultimately, this means we can support translation back into Japanese, Chinese, and Korean). Then to ensure accuracy we verify our work. This job is laborious and expensive. Hence we need to make sure our work does not end up in competing collections.
