Question: Is this the same data base that Hall & Fairborne have put together? Does it do anything that the H&F product together with its search engine or Kombilo will not do? Answer: Your question needs to be answered in two steps. First, what are the differences between the search engines? Our search engine is much faster and more flexible than others. Some searches in the H&F search engine take more than 10 minutes on a 1.3 GHz computer. The same search in MasterGo takes less than 1 second. Other search engines are just as fast but require you to search a predefined pattern. MasterGo has no precompiled searches so ALL occuring patterns are searchable. When new games are added they are immediately available with all the result statistics.So instead of being either fast OR flexible, MasterGo is both. Second, are there any differences with the games in the database? Our team has set a goal to create the most accurate and complete database available. The team working with the game data includes more than 5 people. The person in charge of data has developed methods of entry and verification to promote and ensure great accuracy with move order, names, ranks, dates, tournament names and other information. These files are then checked by additional people. The delivered data base is held in a propriatory format called an .mgd file (MasterGo Database) which is what gives the product its speed and flexibility. If you wish, you can always import any number of .sgf files you obtained from other sources into MasterGo. They will be immediately searchable without any restrictions.
