Answer:
This button only makes sense in Joseki search mode (globe button up). When clicking on 'Show Games', you will get a different set of games for the same search pattern, depending on whether it is White's or Black's turn. If you want ALL games with a pattern, and you do not care who makes the next move in this area, use the sum button.
